Karma:
The Baiga Karma dance begins in the month of Kartik, around the time of Dussehra. Both girls and boys dance together. Two people play the mandar drum while dancing. They wear traditional ornaments, tie turbans, carry kolgi (decorative feathers), drape chheet cloth, and dance by forming a circle. The girls and boys perform the dance in rhythm and harmony.
Marriage:
In the Baiga community, marriages are celebrated with great joy. Most marriages take place during the months of Baisakh and Jeth. The groom’s family goes to see the girl, and if she is liked, preparations for the marriage begin. During the wedding, the Baiga community follows several traditional customs, such as the groom’s family going to the bride’s village, fetching water, digging soil, cutting wood for the wedding pavilion, etc. Their marriage is performed through a custom called “Dosi Dokra.” At the time of the wedding, Dadariya and Birha songs are sung, and people dance.
Godna (Tattooing):
Godna is a distinctive identity of the Baiga community. Only women get godna done. The woman who performs the tattooing is called an “Ojnin.”
